Girkin, Thien win ‘369’ bowling tournament
Staff Report
CHARLES CITY — Three strikes and you’re out!
Maybe in some sports, but strikes have premium currency in bowling. So when you’re spotted three of them before you even step onto the approach, it’s best to take advantage.
That’s what Nathan Girkin and Trevor Thien did while winning their respective Youth and Adult divisions during the “369” Tournament held April 7 at Comet Bowl.
The tourney’s format spots each bowler strikes in the third, sixth and ninth frames.
With handicap, Girkin’s 1,107 series placed him well ahead of runner-up Layla Barry (1,005), with Reno Neiman taking third (935).
Thien’s 984 series bested runner-up Dennis Bruess (966). Chrissy Nelson placed third with a 951 series.
Comet Bowl will hold a 9-Pin Tournament on Friday (April 14).
