Comet girls still undefeated; CC boys suffer first setback

DECORAH — The Charles City boys varsity bowling team didn’t bowl badly against Decorah, Friday at the Vikings’ home house Oneota Lanes.

The Comets just didn’t bowl great.

Sure, for the first time all season four Comets posted two-game 400 series with Kaleb Ross (434), Cade Schmidt (422), Noah Reams (411) and Hunter Brockney (407) doing the honors.

But Decorah’s Michael Bruening was the top roller of the day with a 482 series. And when the Viking averaged nearly 216 during the five-game Baker Rotation round, they pretty much left the Comets in the dust, winning by 234 pins — 3,180 to 2,946 — while improving to 6-0 for the season.

For the Comets, it was their first setback as they now are 4-1.

However, Charles City’s girls team remains undefeated after besting the Vikings by 500 pins.

Comet senior Macy Ross picked up where she left off before the holiday break as she led all varsity girl bowlers with a 433 two-game series.

Charles City freshman Joslyn Cotton, bowling in her first varsity match, rolled a 395 series that included a 209 in the first game.

The next varsity match for the Comets is Jan. 12 when they host Iowa Falls-Alden at Comet Bowl.

On Monday (Jan. 8), Charles City will host Cedar Falls at Comet Bowl in a junior varsity meet.
