Charles City Dart League players pull some ‘tricks’ at state tourney

CHARLES CITY — The population in the city may not be as “populus” from years’ and decades’ past, but you would never know that from the continued representation and performances from Charles City Dart League players at the annual state meets.

“For a town our size, we always get a good turnout down there,” CC league director Deena Graeser said in reference to the Iowa Operators of Music and Amusement’s State Dart Championships, most recently held Feb. 7-11 at the Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center in Waterloo.

While handing out awards during the league’s annual awards banquet on March 3 at Comet Bowl, Graeser said the combined prize money won back from league players at state exceeded the combined entry fees by more than $1,000.

Among the bigger CC Dart League winners at state was the “4 Banditos” consisting of Santos Salinas, Dan Ackerman, Ryan Demro and Eddie Lewis, who won the Team Cricket Level 6 title.

League player Nick Sears placed first in Singles Cricket Level 8, and the Cricket Doubles teams of Shaun Martin and Dean Lair, and James Blue and Ross Houden each placed second in Levels 10 and 12, respectively.

Among league awards, Hot Shots — consisting of Joe Hull, Leroy White, Gil Graeser and Matt Easterly — emerged as the champion amid the 12-team league.

Easterly was also the league’s top individual men’s player in 501 and Cricket.

Danielle Miller was the top individual women’s player in 501; Kim Usher was the top individual women’s player in Cricket.
