CHARLES CITY — Some games and events seem destined for overtime, extra-innings … sudden death.

When the team of Bryant Estlund and Nick Sears met Ryan Demro and Eddie Lewis in the championship round of the inaugural City Tap Dart Tournament last Saturday afternoon-turned-evening, you got the feeling no one was going home early.

Estlund and Sears reached the championship round unscathed after navigating the winner’s bracket. Demro and Lewis had to battle back through the loser’s bracket.

Matches were best out of three games. Estlund and Sears only needed to win one match; Demro and Lewis had to win twice.

Sure enough, Demro and Lewis — who were among the top players during this past Charles City Dart League season — forced the second match by winning two games to one.

Estlund and Sears responded to win the second match, two to one, for the inaugural title.

“It came down to the last dart,” Estlund said. “It could have gone either way.”

The inaugural tournament attracted 10 two-person teams which played on four boards. There were hopes to expand the tournament to cater to even more teams in the future.
