Sindlinger earns 2 No. 1 tennis match wins in Comets’ 6-3 loss to DNH

DIKE — With several of their varsity players unavailable due to other weekend extracurricular obligations, the Charles City Comets lost a non-conference away tennis dual meet to Dike-New Hartford on Friday, 6 matches to 3.

Charles City junior Jodie Sindlinger accounted for two of the Comets’ wins with a No. 1 singles victory over Carrie O’Connor (8-6 pro-set score), and a No. 1 doubles victory with fellow junior Amy Boggess over O’Connor and Taylor Lehr (8-6).

“Jodie played well for us … and so did Amy, who lost a close No. 2 singles match,” Charles City coach Brian Parrott said in referencing Boggess’s 8-6 loss to Church.

Comet junior Taylor Walters managed to pull off a tiebreaker win over Wolverine junior Sydney Hoffman (9-8, 7-4 TB) at No. 3 singles.

Comet freshman Kayla Kellogg lost a close No. 4 singles match to DNH senior Breanna Walsh (9-7).

Playing their first varsity singles matches of the season, Charles City junior Lauren Connell and sophomore Cassie DeBower respectively lost at No. 5 to Sarah Hoeyns (8-3) and at No. 6 to Sydney Latwesen (8-2).

Church and Hoffman defeated Walters and Kellogg in No. 2 doubles (8-4), and Latwesen and Audrey Rickert defeated Connell and DeBower in No. 3 doubles (8-2).

The Comets will be back in action today when they travel to Grundy Center for a match starting at 4 p.m.

They will have another away match on Tuesday against Mason City, and then will host Clear Lake on Thursday at Sportsmen’s Park for the final home meet of the season.

On Saturday, Charles City will face Decorah at Decorah in the first round of the Class 1A Regionals. The match will start at 9 a.m.
