Comets No. 1 in Class 4A softball rankings

Two steps forward, one step back.
The trek the Charles City Comets have taken along the Iowa Girls Softball Rankings periodically released by Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union has been one step back followed by two steps forward.
And it has landed them atop the latest Class 4A rankings.
Charles City, which is coming off two straight State Softball Championships appearances where it placed fifth (2016) and fourth (2017), was listed No. 2 in the initial rankings but fell to No. 3 after falling to previously winless Cedar Falls.
The Comets have responded with 10 straight wins where they have outscored the competition 117 to 14.
Charles City is 17-1 overall and 8-0 in the Northeast Iowa Conference.
After having a rare weekend off, the Comets will host Decorah on Monday, though field conditions due to the recent storms may force a relocation or postponement.
