OELWEIN — Senior Night tends to prompt late starts.
And when you have 11 graduating seniors in your volleyball program like Oelwein, don’t expect the first serve to be slapped until about 8:15 p.m.
The Charles City Comets at least helped their fans make that long drive back as early as possible with a prompt 3-0 sweeping win over the Huskies on Tuesday night.
The victory improved the Comets’ record to 11-22 overall and 3-2 in the Northwest Iowa Conference.
Oelwein fell to 8-20 and 1-4.
The Comets took a 14-6 lead in the first set on a kill by sophomore Danielle Stock assisted by Jennifer Martin before a blocking kill by Jodie Sindlinger finished the set at 25-10.
A kill by Sami Heyer helped Charles City jump out to a 6-1 lead in the second set. Oelwein did pull a little closer, but a pair of kills by junior Alex Litterer gave the Comets a 21-15 lead before winning 25-18.
The third set was the closest of the night, but a kill by sophomore Sadie Gebel capped a 25-21 final.
The Comets have one more away match at Osage next Monday (Oct. 8) before the NEIC Tournament at Decorah on the following Saturday (Oct. 13).
