Charles City YMCA holds 40th Spook Run

CHARLES CITY — The 40th running of the Charles City Family YMCA Spook Run held this past Saturday was graced with a beautiful morning — provided if you dressed appropriately for it.
The bright sunshine brought out the fall colors just when they were at their peak. But much of that fall coloring was in the process of being stripped from the trees due to a blustering wind from the north.
The overall winner for this year’s race was Charles City 16-year-old Max Deeter, who ran a 5K time of 21 minutes, 37 seconds. Deeter has run in the race before. This was his first overall title.
Tyler Eggers came in 10 seconds behind in second place.
Harper McInroy was the overall female winner after edging female runner-up Jenna Haglund at the finish line. Both runners recorded times of 24:01.
There were 64 runners registered for the 5K run — up from last year.
There were several signed up for the 1-mile run/walk, but the field consisted of parents and young children, and the windy conditions discouraged holding the run/walk.
