Rockford beats Turkey Valley, 64-58, advances to quarterfinals

JACKSON JUNCTION — With the final score resembling a basketball game, the Rockford Warriors managed to “fastbreak” into the quarterfinal round of the Class 8-Player playoffs by getting the better of No. 10-ranked Turkey Valley-Jackson Junction, 64-58, in a back and forth thriller on Friday.
After winning its first football playoff game in school history, Rockford (9-1) advances to face former No. 1-ranked and defending state champion Don Bosco in Gilbertsville next Friday (Nov. 2).
The Dons soundly defeated Rockford 80-6 the third week into the regular season. But Don Bosco later got shutout by Northwood-Kensett, a team the Warriors defeated in the last game of the regular season to secure their playoff berth.
Rockford senior Kaden Lyman rushed for a career-high 206 yards and scored five touchdowns.
Senior quarterback Jacob Staudt was 8 of 13 passing for 121 yards. He threw two touchdowns to Dillon Schriever.
Staudt also rushed for 128 yards on 18 carries, and caught a pass for 21 yards.
Weston Schmidt had 12 solo tackles and recovered a fumble, and sophomore Zach Ott had two quarterback sacks for Rockford.
Turkey Valley quarterback Ethan Leibold completed 13 of 20 passes for 241 yards and three touchdowns. He also had 128 yards on 28 carries.
Don Bosco advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Central City, 62-37, in the first round.
