Comets defeat Indians 81-70 for 5th-straight win

FOREST CITY — The Charles City Comets boys basketball team extended its winning streak to five with an 81-70 road win over Forest City on Tuesday.

For the second time this season, Comet senior Brennan Schmidt led his team in scoring. While hitting five of seven attempts from beyond the 3-point arc, Schmidt compiled 17 points.

Junior Jeb Wandro had a season-high 14 points, senior Chase Low scored 12 and had three steals, junior Keenan Wiley scored 12, and junior Jack Hanson was the fifth Comet in double-figures with 11 points while also dishing out six assists.

Junior Kam Mestas also was credited with six assists and had a team-high seven rebounds for the Comets (11-3), which will host Northeast Iowa Conference foe Crestwood on Friday — Charles City has three more NEIC games this regular season as it is currently tied with Waverly-Shell Rock for the top league record (6-1).

Carson Hall had a game-high 24 points for the Indians (2-11).
