Public events scheduled in the Charles City Area

THURSDAY, JUNE 13

Retirement Reception for Dr. Steven Schulz, president of the North Iowa Area Community College, in the New Dining Facility at the NIACC campus, 1000 College Drive, Mason City; social hour and hors d’oeuvres 5-7 p.m.; comments 6 p.m.


FRIDAY, JUNE 14

Charles City Elks Lodge Flag Day Ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. outdoors by the flagpole at the Elks Lodge, 2111 Clark St.; in case of rain it will be held inside the lodge.


SUNDAY, JUNE 16

Charles City Municipal Band Concert, 7:30 p.m. in Central Park; annual “Father’s Day Popcorn Concert” – audience invited to stop at the Charles Theatre before the concert for a free bag of popcorn.


MONDAY, JUNE 17

Musician Anders Haglund, a CCHS graduate, is home for the summer from college and will present a musical program at 11 a.m. at the Charles City Community Center; for an 11:55 a.m. lunch reservation call 641-228-3114.

“Grab a Job” at the Charles City Public Library, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., sponsored by IowaWORKS; includes folders filled with information about area job openings and free personalized career guidance.

THURSDAY, JULY 4

Charles City Municipal Band Patriotic Concert, 7:30 p.m. on the riverbank behind the public library.

Charley Western Firecracker 5K run/walk, 7:30 a.m., starting and finishing by the CCHS football field; registration opens at 6:30 a.m.; free Kids Run around the high school track at 8:30 a.m.; register online or pick up a race brochure and registration form at the Main Street Charles City Office at 401 N. Main St.


SATURDAY, JULY 6

Charles City Bike Ride begins with registration at 7:30 a.m. at First Security Bank parking lot; ride begins from there at 8 a.m. on 26, 34 or 50+ mile routes; call Dick Neal at 641-330-9228 for more information; SAG wagon will be available.


SATURDAY, JULY 13

Charles City Rotary Club Santa’s Shine & Show car show for cars, trucks and motorcycles, in the city parking lot between the Press and the river; registration 9-11 a.m.; awards announced 1:45 p.m.; includes presents for first 100 entries, prizes, food vendors.

Floyd County Museum Tractor Talks, 10 a.m. at the museum – “The Development of the Minneapolis Moline A4T Series and Notes on Other Crossover Tractors,” with Dave Rittenburg.


SATURDAY, JULY 27

Floyd County Museum Heritage Fest, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the museum and Andres Park; includes free activities from different periods, games, food, crafts, music and vendors.


SATURDAY, AUG. 10

Floyd County Museum Tractor Talks, 10 a.m. at the museum – “Oliver vs. John Deere,” with former employees of Oliver/White Farm Equipment and John Deere.
