The After School Club at the Charles City Public Library Tuesday afternoon featured what it always does — a fun book and a fun activity.
“Gingerbread Baby,” by Jan Brett, was the book, and so, naturally, the activity was making gingerbread houses.
The walls and roofs were actually graham crackers, but there was a wide assortment of frostings, candies, crunchies and more for kids to use to decorate their Christmasy creations — or to snack on, with many of the decorations never making it to the houses.
The Tuesday After School Club is aimed at lower elementary grade level kids and incorporates reading stories, listening to stories and hands-on activities. It is held the first and third Tuesday of the month from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. in the Zastrow Room at the library.
The next event is Tuesday, Dec. 17, and will feature the book “Perfect Square” and creating art for the activity.
