Lorraine M. Kingery

170721_J_kingery obitFuneral services for Lorraine M. Kingery, 90, of Charles City, will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 22, 2017, at the First Presbyterian Church in Greene with Pastor Cathy Belles officiating.  Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at Retz Funeral Home, 519 N. First St. Greene and will continue one hour before services at the church on Saturday.

Lorraine was born in Marble Rock, Iowa, on May 12, 1927, the daughter of Henry and Marguerite (Thomas) Ewald and passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2017, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City, surrounded by her family.

Lorraine grew up on a farm near Marble Rock and graduated from Marble Rock High School in 1944. She then attended Hamilton Business College, graduating the following year. Lorraine worked at Standard Oil Co. in Mason City for a time.

On February 15, 1947 Lorraine was united in marriage with Maynard Kingery at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. To this union 3 daughters were born: Linda, Jolene and Marilyn.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Greene, the Porkettes, Help a Neighbor Club and served as a 4H leader. Lorraine helped on the family farm, especially with the harvest and kept busy with gardening, sewing, playing cards, traveling the U.S. and cooking. Her scrap books were kept with meticulous detail and her baking specialty was her pecan pie. Most of all she enjoyed going to her grandchildren’s activities and playing with her great grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 70 years: Maynard; daughters: Linda (David) Keith, Rockford; Marilyn Muhle, Solon; 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sister: Marlys (Richard) Reynolds, Sumner; sisters-in-law: Frances Wahman and Wilma VanTuyl.

Lorraine is preceded in death by her parents and her daughter Jolene Kingery in 2003, 2 sisters and their husbands: Evelyn & Ralph Behnke and Maxine and Albert Kranz.
