Central Park was rocking Friday night in Charles City. The third installment this summer of Party in the Park featured live music, plenty of cool refreshments to beat the heat, and no shortage of delicious food to tempt party-goers’ taste buds.
Temperatures soared into the 90s with a heat index of well over 100 degrees on Friday, but that didn’t stop plenty of folks from enjoying a good time. The theme for the night was “Red Carpet in Chucktown,” meaning revelers could dress in their summer best attire. Plenty of folks jammed out to the music of the Jay Clyde Band, which hails from Manson.
The next Party in the Park will be July 13 and the theme for that event is “Christmas in July.”

Charles City senior center fielder and leadoff hitter Emerson Bohlen was named Iowa Girls Coaches Association Class 4A All-Northeast District Softball Team — the lone Comet to receive the honor.
Bohlen led the Comets in a bevy of categories, including hits (42), runs (31), walks (18), batting average (.442), on-base percentage (.530) and stolen bases (25 out of 28 attempts).
Earlier this month, Bohlen was one of six Comets named to the final All-Northeast Iowa Conference Softball Team. Bohlen was named to the All-NEIC First Team after being an All-NEIC Second Team selection last season.
Bohlen lettered all four years while playing for her father, Comet head coach Brian Bohlen, who reached his 500th coaching win early in the 2024 season with his daughter — then a junior — in the starting lineup.
