An Iowa City man allegedly led Floyd County deputies and other law officers on a high-speed chase Friday evening west of Charles City that resulted in OWI and other charges.

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding in the 2600 block of Highway 14 a little before 7 p.m. Friday.

“The suspect eluded deputies at speeds in excess of 100 mph before entering a ditch in the 2100 block of 210th Street,” the report said.

Wayne Watson, age 55, of Iowa City, was charged with felony eluding, operating while intoxicated (second offense), driving while license revoked, excessive speed, open container and driving on the wrong side of a divided highway.

No injuries were reported, and other charges are pending, the Sheriff’s Office said.
