Macy Ross helps Mustangs roll to ITC Bowling Nationals
Press Staff Report
Charles City 2018 graduate Macy Ross has helped the Mount Mercy University Mustangs women’s bowling team advance to the Intercollegiate Team Bowling National Championships to take place April 17-20 in Dayton, Ohio.
Mount Mercy earned the berth by way of placing fourth at the ITC Sectional Tournament held March 9-10 at Smyrna Bowling Center in Smyrna, Tenn.
Bowling in a Baker Rotation format, the Mustangs were in sixth place out of 16 teams after 32 games, more than 300 pins out of fourth place — the top four teams advance.
In the latter day of the tournament, the Mustangs surged to move up two spots for the national berth.
St. Ambrose was first with 12,502 pins, closely followed by Stephen F. Austin (12,497), Indiana Tech (12,421) and the Mustangs (12,010), who finished 42 pins ahead of SCAD-Savannah for the final berth.
It’s the second time in three years that Mount Mercy has advanced to the nationals.
During the individual round of the sectional tournament, Ross finished 41st out of 165 bowlers while averaging 191 in six games.
While bowling for Charles City, Ross helped the Comet girls place 2nd and 3rd respectively in 2018 and 2017 at the Class 1A State Bowling Championships.
In 2016, Ross was the Class 1A state individual champion.
During her last season with the Comets, Ross set two school records for both boys and girls with a near-perfect 299 game that was part of a 553 two-game series.
