It was a day of “Bowling for Dollars” at Comet Bowl on Saturday — but those dollars were all going to local causes.
More than 50 people competed on 14 bowling teams as the Charles City Community Fund held a bowling tournament and to raise money for several local non-profit groups it supports, including the YMCA, TLC, Forces in Fire, PAWS and Crisis Intervention, among others.
“It’s just a fun way to raise funds and help support local non-profits to help them operate on a regular basis,” said Mike McCarty with the Community Fund.
McCarty guessed that the event would ultimately raise more than $2,000 for the various groups.
