Mark York Parsons was born Jan. 11, 1976 in Charles City to Terry and Linda Parsons. Mark was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart on July 13, 1996 at First Baptist Church in Charles City. They were blessed with two amazing children, Dylan and Kylie.
Mark graduated Charles City High School in 1994. After high school, Mark attended NIACC and graduated in 1998 with an associate degree. He then started his career with Sherwin Williams in Charles City. During his 11-year employment he went back to school to receive his Bachelor’s in Business Management and Finance/Banking. He graduated from Buena Vista University in 2001. Mark met many wonderful people during his career at Sherwin Williams, and 15 years later people would still come up and ask Mark for paint advice. He then moved on to Sherman Nursery in Charles City as their Credit Manager until they closed in 2013. From there, Mark joined the sales team at Diversified Fastening Systems in Charles City. He wore many hats at DFS, he was the salesman, handyman, construction crew and anything else that needed done. Mark was always willing to jump in and help where he was needed. His last position was Purchase Manager.
In his free time (which was not much!), Mark was always fixing or building something new. Any HGTV or Pinterest idea Angie had, Mark would bring to life. His kids were the center of his world. He loved 4-wheeling with Dylan, playing board games and video games, especially Legend of Zelda with his nephew Trevor and watching a good movie with his kids in his theatre room. From the day Kylie was born, she had her Dad wrapped around her finger, he could never tell her no, from playing dolls to building her a playhouse, to baking with her all afternoon.
Mark got certified to Scuba dive at the request of his Father-in-law Craig, along with his son, brother-in-law Travis and sister-in-law Shelby. They loved going to exotic locations in the Caribbean to see what they could find.
Mark just loved helping people and could never say no. He especially loved volunteering at the Charles Theatre. He did every job, from running the film to taking out the garbage. Mark was an active member St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Mark is survived by his wife of 24 years, Angie; son, Dylan (girlfriend Mackenzie); daughter, Kylie; honorary daughter, Payton Hadley all of Charles city; father, Terry Parsons of Charles City; parents-in-law, Craig and Cindy Haberkorn of Charles City; brother-in-law, Travis (Shelby) Haberkorn of Charles City; brother-in-law, Dustin (Kayla) Haberkorn of Charles City; brother, Matt (Sara) Parsons of Boone; grandparents-in-law, Art (Mary) White of Charles City and Delores Haberkorn of Charles City; nieces: Angelica of Ames and Anastasia of Cedar Falls; and nephews: Trevor, Dalton, Carter, Aiden and Oliver all of Charles City.
