Cynthia ‘Cindy’ Ross

Cynthia “Cindy” Ross, 72, of Charles City, passed away Sunday, Jan. 14, 2024, at her home.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 19, 2024, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City.

Cynthia “Cindy” Kay Ross was born to William and Betty (Burrier) Nixt as the third child out of five on July 31, 1951, at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City. Cindy attended Charles City schools and graduated in 1969. She enjoyed sewing clothes and babysitting kids in the community. She attended college at AIB College in Des Moines. She married Denny McCaffrey in July 1973 then later divorced. She then went on to marry the love of her life, Kenneth D. Ross at The Little Brown Church in September 1980. To this union two daughters were born, Jenna Lynn Ross (stillborn) and Cari A. Ross.

Cindy enjoyed working at Shopko in bookkeeping for a few years and then she transitioned to helping farm/bookkeeping. During this time, she and Ken were also foster parents to many in need. Upon the birth of her second child, she decided to stay home and start a daycare. She did this business for 36 years and touched/helped change the lives of kids and their kids too. She loved all her families and enjoyed watching them grow to where they are now.

Cindy is survived by her daughter, Cari (Bill) Ross of Reinbeck, Iowa; two sisters: Patsy Beaver of Charles City and Linda (Richard) Brunner of Riceville; brother, Dennis (Sarah) Nixt of Dakota City, Iowa; and several special nieces and nephews and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth D. Ross; daughter, Jenna Lynn; parents, William and Betty Nixt; brother, Gary Nixt; and grandparents.
