Charles City Fire Department responds to combine fire

Charles City firefighters responded to a call of a combine on fire in a field along Gilbert Street north of Charles City on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 25.
“Crews responded and were able to extinguish the flames quickly,” according to a report by the Charles City Fire Department. Firefighters did have to return a little while later due to the fire still smoldering, it added.
The incident occurred in a bean field about half a mile south of the intersection with the Avenue of the Saints.
