Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City and will continue one hour before the service at the church on Thursday.
Michael “Mike” Ray Thome was born on Dec. 22, 1951, and grew up attending IC Catholic School, graduating from Charles City High School in 1970. He was united in marriage to Rebecca Guthart on April 10, 1976. After high school, Mike worked for White Farm Equipment, Kamm Excavating, and retired from the city of Charles City after working for about 28 years.
Mike’s life revolved around many selfless acts for others, especially for his kids and grandkids. He was a great role model and taught them so many things: patience, kindness, generosity. He loved watching his grandkids’ activities and teaching them hobbies like hunting, fishing, and grilling. Whether he was at home in his garage making squirrel or turtle stew, or perfecting his homemade worm bedding, he was always content. He had a talent and love of restoring classic cars and spent hours building items for others in the garage. Mike and Becky were able to enjoy numerous bus trips throughout the United States with friends. He enjoyed spending time with his siblings and reminiscing. Not only was family important to Mike, but he also served his church, friends, elderly, and many others without ever wanting acknowledgement. He was an active member at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Mike is survived by his wife, Becky; two children: Chris (Terri) of Parkersburg and Janet (Nate) Conrad of Washington; five grandchildren: Elise, Brett and Claire Thome, Makenna and Drew Conrad; five siblings: Diane Larsen, Barb (Dan) Erickson, Dave (Kathy) Thome, Cheryl (David) Chambers, and Gary Thome; along with many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
He is welcomed in Heaven by parents Clarence and Joann (Julius) Thome, brother-in-law Eddie Begley, special niece Nicole McInroy, and several good friends.
