CHARLES CITY — Amidst their first girls soccer season at the varsity level, the Charles City Comets have reached the quintessential .500 mark and are flirting with a winning record.
With Monday’s 3-1 win over the Belmond-Klemme Bulldogs, the Comets improved to 5-5-1 (5 wins, 5 losses, 1 tie … .500) ahead of Thursday’s makeup home match against New Hampton.
Senior forwards Sakira Brown and Destiny Kolheim both scored their first goals of the season, and sophomore midfielder Nevaeh Bloker converted a penalty kick for her 11th goal of the season for the Comets — Bloker ranks in the Top 100 among goal scorers in the state.
Junior keeper Kayla Streich stopped all but one of the 11 shots on goal by the Bulldogs (1-8-3).
