FLOYD COUNTY DISTRICT COURT

Convicted felon pleads guilty to intent to commit sexual abuse

Former CC man in prison to be put on sex offender list

As potential jurors waited, attorneys completed negotiations Tuesday morning on a plea agreement for a former Charles City man originally charged three felony counts including sexual abuse Barry Jerome Holden, Jr., 31, currently residing at the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility, pleaded guilty in Floyd County District Court to assault with intent to commit sexual abuse, an aggravated misdemeanor. Felony charges of third-degree sexual abuse and first-degree burglary were dismissed.

According to court documents, Holden sexually abused a woman July 4, 2013, and the following day he assaulted her. On July 5, he also committed burglary against another person, court documents say.

His sentence included a suspended two-year prison term and two years of probation. Because of the nature of the crime, he also received a special sentencing of 10 years of parole after the probation and must be on the Iowa Sex Offender Registry for 10 years. He must pay a $250 civil fine, although a $625 fine was suspended.

A Charles City man has pleaded to lesser charges following accusations of burglary and sexual abuse.

On Dec. 2, 2014, Holden Jr., 29, pleaded guilty in Floyd County District Court to willful injury resulting in bodily injury, a class D felony, domestic abuse assault, a serious misdemeanor and to tampering with a witness or juror. His sentences included five years in prison.
