Alyssa Staudt, incoming senior at Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock, was crowned Miss Floyd County after this year’s 4th of July parade. She was up against strong competition.

“This is the biggest year that I’ve ever had,” Renee Knapp, fair queen coordinator said.

Staudt was one of 11 girls vying for the crown.

“I’ve got (candidates from) Charles City, I’ve got Rockford, I’ve got Floyd…there is a Marble Rock,” Knapp said of this year’s county representation. “I’ve got girls some that were born in 97, I’ve got a 98 and 99.”

With 10 other young ladies doing their best to achieve the title, Staudt was not expecting to called. She heard her name, stood and received her sash and flowers from Jenna Grober, last year’s Miss Floyd County. Although Staudt appeared calm, cool and collected, everything was all a flutter upon hearing her name announced at Central Park.

“I’m shaking,” she turned and said to Connor Crooks who was named Miss Congeniality.

Being crowned Miss Floyd County was not something Staudt expected.

“I’m surprised,” she said when asked how she felt. “I wasn’t expecting to win.”

Being named Miss Floyd County was only one of Staudt’s major goals. After graduation next year, Staudt plans to study to become an exotic wildlife veterinarian. However, before she chases that dream, Staudt has a year of riding in parades, handing out ribbons and ensuring the Floyd County Fair remains a fun summer destination.
