Barn fire in Floyd brings in five fire departments

The Charles City Fire Department responded along with the Floyd, Rudd and Colwell  departments to a barn fire Tuesday afternoon near Floyd.

The barn in the 2300 block of 170th Street was a total loss but there were no injuries, according to the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office.

The fire and smoke were visible from the Valero Renewables ethanol plant about a mile southeast of the farm.

Floyd Assistant Fire chief Jeremy Stewart, along with Colwell and Charles City firefighters, were the first on the scene. The gravel road leading to the barn was treacherously covered with of ice and snow.

The Sheriff’s Office and Floyd County AMR assisted at the scene.
