To The Press

Charles City High School principal Josh Johnson announced Monday he has accepted an administrative position with the Central Rivers Area Education Agency. He will resign his position with the Charles City Community School District effective June 30.

In his new role, Johnson will be a regional administrator for the AEA serving the Dunkerton, East Buchanan, Independence, Jesup, and Wapsie Valley community school districts. He will be responsible for overseeing the school improvement processes and other services offered through the agency.

“This is an incredible opportunity to pursue my passion of working with school districts in the school improvement process,” says Josh Johnson.

“Central Rivers AEA is an incredible, forward-thinking organization. I am fortunate to be a part of their leadership team. My connection to Charles City will never end. I’m grateful for my experiences here and the professionals that aim to maximize learning each day for students and staff.”

Superintendent Dan Cox said, “Josh Johnson has been an outstanding high school principal here in Charles City. His visionary leadership and innovative thinking truly have changed the way that students and staff are engaged, inspired, and empowered.

“Although we hate to lose him, it is encouraging to know that he will continue to make a difference for students here in Northeast Iowa,” Cox said.

During his time in Charles City, Johnson led the District’s Teacher Leadership Team and speared-headed efforts to re-work the mission, vision and core values for Charles City.

He co-authored the grant that created the Iowa BIG North program, initiated the introduction of project-based learning in grades five-12, and has orchestrated the growth of advanced placement classes at Charles City High School.

The school district is also in the process of finding a replacement for Cox, who is also leaving to take a position with an area education agency, in his case as chief administrator of Northwest AEA, based in Sioux City,

The district announced that the hiring process for a new high school principal will begin soon, but will conclude after May 21 so the new superintendent will be able to be involved in the selection process.
