Nora Springs boy killed when struck by safe

A Nora Springs boy was fatally injured Sunday afternoon when he was struck by a safe that he was helping his father load.

The Nora Springs Police Department said that Karson Ott, 12, was killed while helping his father, Larry Ott, load a safe that fell and struck him. The accident happened a little after 3:30 p.m.

Ott was a student at Central Springs School in Nora Springs. School officials said grief counselors are available for students or staff who would like to talk to them.

The Nora Springs Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Nora Springs Fire Department, Floyd County Sheriff’s Office and Mason City Fire Department paramedics.
