Party in the Park dates, bands and themes announced

Plan on partying in the park again this summer.

Now in its 16th season, Party in the Park is a series of Friday night public gatherings in Central Park hosted by Community Revitalization.

Included are free live music from 5-9 p.m., along with games and other activities, food vendors, a beer garden and a chance to sit back and socialize with friends, neighbors and visitors alike.

Party in the Park dates this year are June 1, 15 and 29; July 13; and Aug. 3.

“Many of your favorite things about Party in the Park will be back for the 2018 season,” said Emily Garden, Charles City events coordinator. “Theme nights have been added this year for some extra fun and community engagement to each evening!”

Kicking things off on June 1 will be hometown band PV and the Phantoms on “Rivals Night,” when attendees are asked to wear their favorite team apparel.

“Leave no doubt who you cheer for, whether you’re a fan of NASCAR, football, basketball, baseball — proudly wear your team colors,” said Garden.

June 13 will feature the band Exit 113, which will pair with a “Decades Night” theme.

“Whether you love the 1950s, ’60s, ’70s, or today, come dressed to enjoy an evening with friends and great music from this band out of Des Moines,” Garden said.

Rounding out the month of June is country artist The Jay Clyde Band. Dress in your summer best on June 29 as the theme is “Red Carpet in Chucktown.”

July’s Party in the Park features local country artist Jesse Allen. He will stop in Charles City on July 13 for his “Steppin’ Up” tour during the “Christmas in July” theme night.

Wrapping up the 2018 Party in the Park series on Aug. 3, but not the summertime fun, will be Charles City’s own Iowa Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame band Endless Summer. The “Chuck Goes to Hawaii’ theme night will add to the festive evening.
