A brat/hot dog fundraiser on Wednesday at Valero in Charles City benefited the upcoming Floyd County Relay For Life.
Several members of Team Valero were on hand in the Valero scalehouse and administrator parking lot offering up tasty food. Hungry Valero workers and truck drivers pulling in and out of the ethanol production plant were able to enjoy hot dogs, bratwursts, chips and a drink for a suggested donation.
“They’re a great audience and great participants,” said Kim Wilson, an administrative assistant at Valero.
Jan Adams, a lab manager at Valero, was happy to help out with a cause of helping beat cancer.
“It’s incredible the amount of money that we’ve been able to raise,” said Adams. “We’re always just overwhelmed by the generosity of the truckers and the people that come.”
Each year more than 5,000 Relay For Life events worldwide take place in communities in an effort to raise funds for the American Cancer Society.
“Most of us that work here, we’ve been affected either personally or in our families by cancer,” said Adams.
The Relay for Life of Floyd County takes place 5-9 p.m. Friday, June 22, at Central Park in Charles City. Among the events scheduled for that day are a survivor celebration, silent auction, kids games and a luminaria ceremony.
