The Charles City Art Center held a ice cream social reception on Friday for residents of Comprehensive Systems Inc. in Charles City, whose artwork will be the featured exhibit at the center for the month of August.
The reception included artwork, ice cream and music, as students of local music instructor Sarah Jensen played and sang at the event.
Comprehensive Systems in Charles City provides support to more than 300 individuals with special needs. Services include residential, vocational and day services in a five-county area. John Guthart has conducted an art class for the residents since 1989 and a variety of paintings and drawings from those classes will be on display this month.

The Chucktown Legends won the 12U Gold Division Bracket while hosting the annual Legends Firecracker Classic youth baseball tournament played this past weekend at Lion’s Field Park and Sportsmen’s Park. Players include Hunter Apel, LJ Barry, Owen Barry, Blake Bohlen, London Gemaehlich, Gavin Hamm, Dax Johnson, Tucker Johnson, Reece Krivachek and Cooper Mahnesmith.
