Floyd County candidates forum Thursday evening

To The Press

Voters will have an opportunity to hear from and meet the candidates for Floyd County government offices at a public candidate forum at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 601 Milwaukee St. The forum is free and open to all.

All candidates for the contested races for Floyd County supervisors and Floyd County treasurer have agreed to take part in the forum, which is being put on by the Charles City Chapter of the American Association of University Women and the Charles City Area Chamber of Commerce.

Doug Kamm, a Republican, is running for re-election to one of the two seats opening up on the board of supervisors in the Nov. 6 general election. He is joined on the ballot by Democrats Roy Schwickerath and Stewart Dalton, as well as no-party candidate Michael Staudt.

Floyd County Treasurer Frank Rottinghaus, a Democrat, is also seeking re-election and being challenged by no-party candidate Todd Schriever.

Candidates running unopposed are Recorder Deb Roberts and County Attorney Rachel Ginbey, as well as state District 52 Rep. Todd Prichard. All have been invited to attend.

The public is encouraged to attend and to ask questions of the candidates. Questions must be submitted in writing, either in advance to the Chamber office at 401 N. Main St. (email address: info@charlescitychamber.com) or the night of the forum. No verbal questions from the audience will be accepted that night.

Early in-person voting at the Floyd County Auditor’s Office began Monday. Absentee ballots for the Nov. 6 election can be requested until Oct. 27 and must be delivered to the Auditor’s Office or postmarked by Oct. 5 to be counted.
