Mamma Mia! – Immaculate Conception talent show features skits and pasta bar

“Mamma Mia!”

That was the theme of the Immaculate Conception Elementary School Talent Show performed and put on by students Friday night.

IC Principal Laurie Field said students were in charge of organizing the fun event that will help fund new art carts filled with supplies.

“They let the kids decide this year,” said Field.

This was the second year in a row that food was served before the show. Attendees of the annual event got to eat from a pasta bar that featured spaghetti, chicken Alfredo and bread sticks for a freewill donation.

“All of the food was donated,” said Kolleen Milligan, an IC teacher’s aide who helped serve the food.

There was also a raffle ticket contest where the winner received a hoverboard. That prize was won by Karina Ibarra.

Students in the talent show sang songs like Judy Garland’s “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and Sister Sledge’s 1970s disco classic, “We are Family.” There was also a “Three Little Pigs” skit and a “Granny Dance.”

The performance part of the evening wasn’t as long as last year’s event, but the skits always provide laughs and a chance for students to be the stars of their own show.

“This is their big night,” said Field. “They really were organized.”
