Municipal band performs second concert of season Sunday

About 110 people enjoyed some good music and fine weather as the Charles City Municipal Band held its second concert of its 39th season Sunday at Central Park.

The band performed a variety of pieces, including American and European marches, an original piece titled “Memory Dance” based on the music of ABBA, as well as other standards.

The band was under the direction of Mike Fisher, superintendent of Charles City Community Schools, and a former music teacher.

It was the second of three shows for the municipal band this season. The band kicked it off on June 2, under near-perfect weather conditions in Central Park. That show was directed by Charles City High School band director Jake Gassman.

The final performance of the season is scheduled for July 4, starting at 7:30 p.m. behind the Charles City Public Library, prior to the fireworks. Scott Stroud, director of bands from Nashua-Plainfield High School, will conduct the July 4 concert.
