Scrap metal mania

The Charles City Lions Club’s first-ever scrap metal drive got off to a roaring start Wednesday and Thursday. As of 2 p.m. on Thursday, 12 tons of scrap metal had been dropped off — and this doesn’t include the more than 20 tons of scrap metal that had already been dropped off before the drive officially began.

The scrap metal drive started Wednesday and will run through Saturday. Anyone can bring scrap metal to Denny’s Recycling, on 13th Avenue in Charles City. Hours Friday will be from 1-7 p.m., and Saturday hours will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

People are advised to bring their metal to the south side of the business. Denny’s Recycling has dumpsters and plenty of equipment available to help with the loads.

The Lions Club takes part in several community projects throughout the year, and the money raised from the scrap metal drive will finance some of them.
