A couple of dozen cross country runners and their coaches grabbed sponges, rags, brushes, buckets and hoses Wednesday for their annual car wash.

Boys cross country head coach Ryan Rahmiller said the event, held at the Hy-Vee convenience store, is used to raise funds to purchase water and Gatorade for the runners at every meet.

“It’s become an annual summer tradition for us, and we love reconnecting with cross country alumni, parents and community members,” Rahmiller said.

Between 20 and 25 team members helped out Wednesday, and raised $536 through freewill donations, he said.

“Hy-Vee Gas and the community are both very generous for hosting us and supporting us, respectively,” he said.

Rahmiller was joined at the event by his wife, Amanda Rahmiller, the girls cross country head coach. The Rahmillers are the head coaches of the boys and girls track and field teams as well.
