Two Charles City residents seriously injured in motorcycle accident Saturday

Two Charles City residents received serious injuries in a one-vehicle motorcycle accident Saturday afternoon in Mitchell.

The Iowa State Patrol reports that John Carpenter, age 34, was driving a 2016 Harley-Davidson motorcycle with passenger Ashley Carpenter, age 32, when he lost control while negotiating a left curve near the intersection of West Main Street and East Commercial Street in Mitchell.

The motorcycle left the roadway and struck several trees, coming to rest on top of John Carpenter in the west ditch. Ashley Carpenter was also thrown from the motorcycle and landed in the west ditch.

John Carpenter was transferred by Mercy AirMed helicopter to MercyOne-North Iowa in Mason City, where he was listed in critical condition as of Monday afternoon.

Ashley Carpenter was transported by ground ambulance to Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage. A condition report was not available.

The State Patrol reports that the accident remains under investigation.
