It was an after-dark party for area teens in Charles City on Friday evening.

The spooky fun took place in the Zastrow Room of the Charles City Public Library while the main section of the library was closed and the lights were turned off.

The Halloween-inspired teen party was led by CC Library Youth Director Stacey Leerhoff. There was plenty of food that brought many young adults together to listen to music, share some laughs and compete against one another in creative games thought up by Leerhoff.

“I want them to have fun and know the library is a fun place,” said Leerhoff.

Teens decorated cupcakes and pumpkins. They could also get their face painted by local artist Sherri Parker.

There will be another Halloween Party this morning (Monday) from 10 a.m. until noon at the library. A storytelling group, The Cedar River Readers, will read to the audience and party-goers.

Leerhoff said she plans more fun indoor events for the library as the season moves into winter and it gets colder outside.
