Supervisors OK new property info website work, LEC change order

Floyd County supervisors gave tentative approval to a new property information website provider, approved a change order on the new law enforcement center project and began a discussion on complications in a drainage district during a short Christmas Eve regular meeting Tuesday morning.

As previously reported, the county has decided to change the company providing property, property tax and GIS information through the County Assessor’s Office.

The new website will offer more information in an easier-to-use format, and will be enough less expensive than the current service that the county will be able to stop charging a subscription fee for enhanced access, meaning all the information will be available to the public online for free.

The supervisors approved the contract with Vanguard Appraisals Inc. to begin building the new site for the county, subject to approval of the contract language by the County Attorney’s Office.

The Board of Supervisors also agreed that any subscriptions or subscription renewals for enhanced access on the current system would be for no longer than June 30, when the contract with the current provider expires.

Also at the meeting Tuesday morning, the board:

• Approved a change order for MPC Enterprises Inc. of Mount Pleasant for a reduction in charges of $233,400 for changes in specifications for precast wall panels and related materials for the new county law enforcement center project.

• Began a discussion with a couple of landowners in county Drainage District 7, northwest of Charles City, regarding possible improvements to the main tile line in conjunction with a private project through the National Resources Conservation Service to redo a waterway.

Floyd County Auditor Gloria Carr said changes to the district that could include changing the main tile might require reclassifying the drainage district, a process that can cost a minimum of $20,000 to $25,000 that would be assessed to the property owners in the district.

The board decided to seek the advice of Kent Rode of Bolton & Menk Inc., a senior project manager and engineer who has done drainage work for the county, on how to proceed.

• Reappointed Susan Nelson to another 5-year term on the county Zoning Commission, and approved Ann Sullivan for another 5-year term on the county Board of Adjustment.

• Acknowledged Floyd County Engineer Dusten Rolando and the Secondary Roads Department for receiving the national Silver Award in county road concrete projects from the American Concrete Pavement Association for County Road T26 to Marble Rock, awarded at the group’s national convention earlier this month.
