Chautauqua Guest Homes Inc. in Charles City announced changes in the corporate management team at all three of its facilities.

“These changes are a result of members of the management team stepping back from full-time roles and other members of the team taking on new roles and the addition of new members to our team,” the corporation said in a press statement.

David Ayers, the president of the board, CEO and administrator of the facilities, will be transitioning into a corporate role. Ayers has been an administrator at Chautauqua for 41 years, according to information from the organization.

Now, many of Ayers’ day-to-day administrative duties will be assumed by Misty Hobert, RN, BSN, LNHA, and Mary Shupe, LNHA.

Hobert has completed the educational and testing requirements to become a licensed nursing home administrator. She was recently promoted to administrator at 9th Street Chautauqua.

Hobert joined Chautauqua Guest Homes in 2001 and has served as the director of nursing at 9th Street for the past 15 years.

“Misty’s strong nursing background and the commitment to residents/ family members will be a tremendous asset to the position,” according to Chautauqua Guest Homes.

Mary Shupe has assumed the role of administrator at 11th Street Chautauqua. She has been a licensed administrator for 25 years and joined Chautauqua Guest Homes in August 2017.

Shupe brings a long history in administration and passion for providing care and services to the long-term care community, the corporation said. She is skilled in brainstorming solutions throughout the facilities.

Susan Ayers, RN, BSN, LNHA, has transitioned from being the administrator at 9th Street Chautauqua into a part-time role as the infection prevention nurse for Chautauqua Guest Homes. Sue Ayers has been with Chautauqua since 1991.

“Her nursing experience and proven commitment to quality will be vital in this quality improvement position,” the press statement said.

Jenny Evans, RN, has been promoted to the position of director of nursing at 9th Street Chautauqua. Evans has been working as the MDS coordinator for Chautauqua and has been with Chautauqua since 2013. She has proven to be dedicated to providing high-quality care and looking for ways to develop nursing staff, Chautauqua said.

Wanda Mueller, RN, has been named the MDS coordinator position for Chautauqua. Mueller is a new member of the Chautauqua team. She has 14 years of nursing experience and brings new views and ideas to the team, as well as experience in resident assessment.

Kathy Cerwinskie, nurse manager of Riverside Senior Living, has retired after nine years in that position.

Cerwinskie will continue to work in collaboration with Chautauqua and the Charles City High School as an instructor for the certified nursing assistant program that is offered through the high school in collaboration with Chautauqua.

Sandy Staudt, RN, has returned to Chautauqua and is the nurse manager at Riverside. She has been a nurse for 36 years. She was in the position of director of nursing at 9th Street Chautauqua from 1991 to 2005, and brings new insight to the Chautauqua team, the press statement said. She has several years of experience as a corporate consulting nurse.

“These are very exciting changes for the corporation that will promote the continued success of Chautauqua Guest Homes,” the press release said. “These team members have proven records in providing high-quality resident-centered care to those they serve.”

The corporation invited people to stop by any of the facilities to meet the staff and ask any questions about the services provided at the different levels of care.

Chautauqua has provided high-quality care to members of the Charles City community for the past 50 years, as reflected by both 9th Street and 11th Street recognition by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) as 5-Star facilities and above-average survey history.

“These changes position the corporation to continue its strong history of service to area residents with a focus on both quality of life and quality of care well into the future,” the corporation said.
