Charles City residents had the opportunity to sample a little bit of every season over Easter Weekend, as the weather seemed to be constantly shifting.

Good Friday saw blustery winds roll through the area under sunny skies, while Saturday was mostly cloudy — but warm enough to get out and ride bikes or test the local fishing on the Cedar River.

Things cooled down Saturday night, with rain moving in and dampening Easter Sunday morning. By Sunday afternoon, temperatures had dropped substantially and the rain had turned to sleet and snow.

A winter weather advisory was in effect through Sunday night and into Monday morning across portions of northeast and north central Iowa, with 1-3 inches of snow falling and winds gusting up to 40 miles per hour.

The National Weather Service expects it to be unseasonably chilly the rest of this week. Temperatures were in the 20s Sunday and Monday night, with daytime highs expected to reach the mid-30s on Tuesday and near 40 on Wednesday. By Saturday, the daytime high is expected to approach 60 degrees.
