Iowa prairie near the Northeast Iowa Regional Airport is in bloom, with brilliant yellows and purples welcoming people to the airport entrance east of Charles City on Highway 18.
The Dr. K. P. Steimel Memorial Prairie was established by the Floyd County Ikes in 2013 to memorialize the longtime Charles City physician, said Larry Hibbs, a member of the Floyd County chapter.
“Prairie plantings often take some years to reach their full potential as a wildlife habitat location,” Hibbs said. “Right now the Steimel Prairie is a beautiful site to see and is hosting an abundance of wildlife.”
