Charles City Lions Club members Jeff Otto of Otto’s Oasis and Tim Berk of Southside Monuments put the finishing touches on the Lions Club’s “Century Project” in Central Park in downtown Charles City this week.

Plaques were installed at the base of the new flagpoles, which feature the United States flag and the Iowa flag — and soon, a flag representing Charles City. The Lions are celebrating 100 years of existence in Charles City.

The plaques commemorate the lives lost in the 1968 tornado, as well as the Lions and the Charles City Women’s Club, which also contributed to the project. The plaques are lighted with LED lights.
