To The Press

Several Floyd County veterans were honored in March and April and draped with a quilt made by a member of the Quilts of Valor sewing group.

Carl Jacob received his quilt at the Elks Lodge on March 23. Jacob served in the Army from 1969-1970. His quilt was made and presented by member Jodi Hammond-Milleson and quilted by Holly Fokkena of Prairie Rose Quilting.

On Saturday, March 27, Dennis Petefish and Paul Augustin were draped with their quilts at a ceremony held at the Immaculate Conception Social Hall.

Petefish served in the Navy from 1968-1972. His quilt was made by Wyona Stewart and quilted by Elsie Ferguson.

Augustin served in the Army from 1968-1971. His quilt was made by his wife, Mary Augustin, as a surprise for the presentation, and quilted by Becky Lindaman.

Russell Kornegor was presented his quilt on April 3 at his home in Rockford. Kornegor served in the Army from 1964-1966. His quilt was presented by Sharon Enabnit. The quilt was made by Mary Williams and quilted by Becky Lindaman.

The Quilt of Valor group thanks these men for their service to our country. If anyone in Floyd County would like to have a veteran honored with a quilt, contact Al Williams at 641-330-9709.

On Sunday, the Chickasaw County Quilts of Valor group honored David Nehls of Charles City with a quilt, awarded at the Fredericksburg Community Center.

Nehls, who served in the Army in Vietnam all of 1971, was drafted out of Chickasaw County in 1970 because members of his family were scattered after the 1968 tornado destroyed their Charles City home. The family reunited and was living in Bassett when Nehls turned 18 and registered for the draft.
