The Charles City School District has hired three new employees for the upcoming school year.

At Monday’s school board meeting, the Charles City School District Board of Directors approved the appointments of elementary school counselor Michelle Dohlman, special education nurse Bethany Bjorklund and full-time para-educator Amy Peterson.

Peterson was hired at a wage of $15.09 per hour and starts this month. Bjorklund and Dohlman will officially start on Aug. 12, the start of the 2021-22 school year. Bjorklund was hired at a salary of $51,434, while Dohlman’s salary is yet to be determined.

A mother of three, Dohlman most recently worked in the Osage school district as a counselor, and will work as a counselor at Lincoln Elementary. She earned her masters degree in school counseling at Buena Vista University and completed her undergraduate studies in agriculture education at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.

Bjorklund has been a nurse for 13 years, earning her nursing degree at the University of Iowa, and is working toward her masters degree in public health at Columbia Southern University. Currently an elementary school nurse for Mason City Community Schools, Bjorklund has extensive experience in a variety of locations all over the country.

Bjorklund’s husband, Bryan, recently accepted a teaching position at Charles City and will be the district’s new head football coach. The couple has two young children.

Peterson is a Charles City graduate and also raised her family here in town, and is currently a substitute para-educator with Charles City. She and her husband, Bob, are the parents of five children — two who have graduated from CCHS.
