The rainy weather was only a minor distraction Saturday as 36 participants from six states turned up in Charles City to take part in the Charles City Challenge on the whitewater course at Riverside Park.

“It was a great turnout, and a fun day on the river,” said Ginger Williams, Charles City marketing and tourism coordinator.

Six different competitions culminated with the “Balls to the Wall Race” which tested paddlers’ land and water skills as they had to chase a ball down the whitewater course as a team, then run the ball on land back to the top of the course.

There were also numerous events and activities on land, although it was hard for spectators to stay dry, as rain came and went throughout to day.
