New teachers learn about Charles City on scavenger hunt
Newly-hired teachers in the Charles City Community School District went on a scavenger hunt all around town on Thursday as part of their orientation into the district and the community. Stopping by the Charles City Press Thursday afternoon were Molly Staudt, Michelle Dohlman, Kailey Eskildsen and Alecia Feckers. After getting their photos taken at the Press, the teachers were directed to go to the Floyd County Historical Museum next. This group was one of four groups of teachers on the hunt. On her first attempt, Charles City sophomore Sofia Calpito broke her own school record in the girls long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 9 1/2 inches at Thursday’s Class 3A State-Qualifier at Decorah. Calpito placed second in both the LJ and girls 100-meter hurdles while earning automatic berths for next week’s State Track and Field Championships.
