Charles City man injured in SUV-semi accident in Chickasaw County

A Charles City man was injured in a motor vehicle accident between an SUV and a semi-tractor last week in Chickasaw County.

According to a report by the Iowa State Patrol, the accident occurred at 2:39 p.m. Thursday on Highway 24, almost 5 miles east of New Hampton.

Travis E. Ihrig, age 40, of Charles City, was traveling east on Highway 24 west of Quinlan Ave. in a 2005 Chevrolet Suburban, at the same time that Sean M. Brophy, age 38, of Elma, was driving a 2020 Peterbilt tractor-trailer west on the same highway.

According to the report, Ihrig’s vehicle crossed the center line and struck the semi-tractor dual wheels, continued east and struck the attached trailer, then struck the cable barrier and several posts on the north shoulder of the highway, where it stopped. Brophy’s semi stopped in the traveled portion of the highway.

Ihrig was transported to MercyOne New Hampton by Chickasaw County Ambulance. The accident remains under investigation, the State Patrol reported. Also assisting at the scene were the Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
