Gibson Wade Boyd came into the world at 7:47 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 4, becoming the first baby born in the new year in Floyd County.

The son of Jessica Baer and Robert Boyd of Riceville, Gibson was 20 inches long and weighed 8 pounds, 7½ ounces at birth. He joins siblings Gavin, Garet and Gemma, and has grandparents Justin and Angie Cimmiyotti and Linda Drumm.

The Floyd County Medical Center Auxiliary presented Gibson and his parents with a gift package in honor of being the first baby born in 2022.

Delivering doctor was Dr. Paul Royer.

There were 98 babies born at the Floyd County Medical Center in 2021, said Heather LaPolice, the FCMC Birth Center director. That’s an average of a baby born a little more frequently than every four days.
