Drive-thru Dining for Dollars scholarship fundraiser planned for Feb. 18

By Bob Steenson, bsteenson@charlescitypress.com

The meal will be drive-thru instead of sit-down dining, but the cause will be the same as the Charles City Area Dollars for Scholars holds its annual Dining for Dollars event this month.

All money raised will be used for scholarships for 2022 high school graduates.

Because of pandemic concerns, the meal of chicken or pork loin, cheesy potatoes, Mexican corn, roll and dessert will be carryout and available to be picked up between 5:30 and 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, at the Elks Lodge.

Tickets are $25 each and must be purchased by Tuesday, Feb. 8. They are available from Dollars for Scholars board members Kathy Herrick, Ammie Joslin, Rachel Page, Kim Wendel, Melanie Johanningmeier, Charlie Newman, Andy Hintgen, Julie DeBower, Chelle Schlader or Eric Mayhew.

Sarge’s Smokestack from Fredericksburg is cooking the meal. Dinner rolls and dessert are being provided by Hy-Vee.

Last year at the annual Charles City Area Dollars for Scholars awards presentation, 51 area seniors received scholarship awards ranging from $500 to $2,500.

A total of $47,500 was awarded to soon-to-be graduates from Charles City High School, Carrie Lane High School, Floyd Gospel Lighthouse Academy and area homeschooled students.

Scholarship applications are open now and must be submitted online by March 1 to be eligible. Directions and applications are available at the website, charlescity.dollarsforscholars.org, under the “Students and Parents” tab.

In addition to taking part in the Dining for Dollars meal, persons can make donations to support scholarships by sending them to Charles City Area Dollars for Scholars, P.O. Box 684, Charles City, IA 50616, or by going to the website, charlescity.dollarsforscholars.org, and clicking on the “Donate Now” tab.
