A couple of hundred kids along with parents and others attended a birthday party Tuesday afternoon at the Charles City Public Library.

The party was in honor of the birthday of children’s author Dr. Seuss – Theodor Seuss Geisel – which was Wednesday, March 2, and which is also celebrated as Read Across America Day.

Free activities sponsored by the library and by the Charles City Community Education Association (CCCEA) included photo ops with the Cat in the Hat, face painting, snacks donated by Hy-Vee, contests, games and crafts like bookmarks, painting and creating truffula trees.

Every child who attended was also able to pick out a free book to take home.
